Press Operator

What’s your role at Catapult?

I’ve nearly been at Catapult for a year. I’m one of the press operators so I look after all the rolls, paper and make sure that the print coming off the press looks the best it can. Just don’t let me near a forklift as I accidentally crashed into a wall one time!

What’s a day in the life of your role like?

Every day is different but they’re all very busy! It’s all about setting up jobs and keeping it running smoothly whilst staying on top of the production schedule. Some jobs are short runs and some are huge – right now, we’re printing over 40,000 feet which can take around 3 hours.

Why did you choose printing/technology as a field to work in?

I actually came from a warehouse background so printing was completely new to me! The support on offer from Catapult was great and since joining i’ve moved from warehouse onto the production so it’s been progression so far!

What advice would you give to someone looking to go into print?

You need to be a go-getter for sure. I’m a hands-on learner so being attentive, dedicated and willing to learn is really important. Being attentive and helping others as you’d expect to be helped is also key. There is no ‘I’ in team after all.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’d love to move into a supervisor role with Catapult. It’s a great business to work for!
